The Batavia Ramparts Players, Alumni, Administration, and Coaches salute the life of Tom Brinkworth who passed away suddenly September 11th 2017. Tom was father of Trevor and Parker (Ramparts Alumni) and Grandfather to Brock (2016/17 Ramparts Mite) and close friend to many in our organization. He was a hockey father to teams and players for many years. He was very close to his players and his coaches and a strong advocate for their well-being and success. We send our deepest condolences to his wife, children, grandchildren, friends, and family.
In past years Tom was a member of the GAHA Board, later a long-time member-at-large of the GAHA coaching committee, and most notably an impactful and memorable team manager for numerous GAHA teams. At Tom’s lead his teams were most noted for their incredible fundraising capabilities which resulted in creative third jerseys, well dressed teams, and successful home and away tournament participation. He was one of the kings of organizing Darien Lake Fundraising in the early years and could be seen almost every concert for many years leading groups in working the stands on the hill. Tom chaired many successful GAHA home tournaments over the years and would spend days at the rink during these events. He supported several individual players when finances became an obstacle to hockey. Tom was also a very active member of the Notre Dame school and hockey community. In the last few years Tom had just begun the Ramparts journey with his grandson Brock and we were already working on roping him back in.
The youth hockey experience of countless players was positively impacted by Tom and his passion for our program and hockey in general. The Batavia Ramparts will be forever grateful to not only Tom but also his family and the sacrifices they made to allow him to be an active volunteer in our program. His legacy will live on within the Batavia Ramparts; in our teams, coaches, players, managers, and their collective and individual successes. In honor of Tom’s numerous contributions, specifically his dedication and innovation in team management, the WNY Manager of the Year award will be renamed the Tom Brinkworth WNY Manager of the Year beginning the 2017/2018 season.
